EC: Belden DataTuff 600V Cat 5e AWM-rated Cable

Network Integration - wire, cable, cordsets, connectors - Belden. Belden DataTuff 600V Cat 5e AWM-rated Cable - Unlike traditional Ethernet cables, Belden's 600V Cat 5e AWM-rated Cables are able to be used reliably in particularly tough EMI environments, i.e., motor control centers and switch gear applications. This is a Control Engineering 2011 Engineers' Choice (EC) Award winner.

With the advance of Ethernet technology now reaching motor control centers (MCCs) and switch gear, the Ethernet cabling component must be especially reliable and robust.  In MCCs, drives could produce enough EMI to interfere with many traditional Ethernet cables.  Moreover, the need to monitor and control these devices may demand that the cable enter the MCC.  As a result, an Ethernet cable with excellent noise immunity and the ability to run on or near listed devices is needed.

Belden’s DataTuff Industrial Ethernet Cat 5e 600V Cables provide assured performance and reliability in highly concentrated EMI environments, such as those in listed MCC and switch gear applications.  The AWM rating allows the cables to be used on or within a listed cabinet or machine, as well as in more traditional industrial Ethernet applications.

The DataTuff 4-pair shielded cables offer exceptionally rugged construction to provide superior performance, reliability and noise immunity. They feature an overall shielded design with 24 AWG Bonded-Pair solid bare copper conductors, polyolefin insulation, a 24 AWG stranded tinned copper drain wire, and an industrial-grade oil- and sunlight-resistant PVC jacket. One cable style (Part No. 7958A) has an overall Beldfoil shield to meet the EMI requirements of most plant environments, this cable is MSHA approved.  The other style (Part No. 7957A) has an overall Beldfoil shield + 70% tinned copper braid, making it suitable for use in more extreme EMI environments.  Both cables are Ethernet/IP compliant.      Belden’s patented Bonded-Pair construction contributes to the cabling’s electrical stability and performance.  In Bonded-Pair cables, the conductor insulations of each of the cable pairs are affixed to each other along their longitudinal axes to maintain conductor concentricity and ensure that no performance-robbing gaps between conductors can occur, before, during and after installation. Belden calls this unique capability Installable Performance.
