Yaskawa Electric America Inc., Palo Alto, Calif., received Frost and Sullivan’s 2008 Global Frost and Sullivan Award for Customer Value Leadership.

Fluke, Everett, Wash., donated advanced electrical and electronic test instruments to 20 educational institutions in the United States. Each winning school will receive two test instruments: the Fluke 289 and the Fluke 287 logging digital multimeters. The Fluke Education Grant Program’s designed applicants include community colleges, universities, and training programs and a review committee of electronics professionals chose the winners. The winning schools and training programs for Fluke 287 Grants are Atlanta Electrical JATC, Atlanta; Boise State University, Boise, Idaho; Coosa Valley Technical College, Rome, Ga.; Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, Kan.; IBEW Local 176 JATC, Joliet, Ill.; and Milwaukee School of Engineering, Milwaukee. The Fluke 289 Grant winners are Bluefield State College, Bluefield, W.Va.; Detroit Electrical Industry Training Center, Detroit; Hazelton Area Career Center, Hazleton, Pa.; Hibbing Community College, Hibbing, Minn.; Hudson Valley Community College, Troy, N.Y.; Linn State Technical College, Linn, Mo.; Northern Maine Community College, Presque Isle, Maine; Palo Alto College, San Antonio, Texas; Pennsylvania State University, Reading, Pa.; Richmond Electricians’ JATC, Ashland, Va.; Southeast Missouri State University, Cap Girardeau, Mo.; Venango Technology Center, Oil City, Pa.; Wyoming Electrical JATC, Casper, Wyo.; and Yavapai College, Prescott, Ariz.

Schreder Lighting, Chicago, announced that Premier Lighting Sales Agency will represent its complete line in Kansas and western Missouri.

Johnson Controls, Milwaukee, and its subsidiary Versar Inc., will receive one of 12 large business contracts by the U.S. Air Force for construction and design build services. The contact has an expected $10 billion dollar ceiling for all awardees and companies were charged with supplying facilities and infrastructure support to the Air Force Civil Engineering Support Agency under a Sustainment, Restoration, and Modernization Acquisition Task Order Contract.

LENOX, East Longmeadow, Mass., announced that Bill Burke will be appointed group president of tools and hardware. Burke led the LENOX Industrial Products and Services business since 2003.

Q-Tran, Bridgeport, Conn., appointed Brooks Assocs., Cincinnati, Ohio, as its lighting sales agency in Ohio.

Emerson Network Power, Columbus, Ohio, announced that Peter A. Panfil has been named vice president and general manager of Liebert AC Power, Emerson Network Power.

UTC Canada Corp., New York City, acquired Commercial Air Services Inc., St. Catharines, Ontario.

Trane, Piscataway, N.J., applications engineering manager Mick Schwedler will receive the ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award on June 21 in Salt Lake City. Schwedler has been an active member of ASHRAE for more than 20 years and helped update the ASHRAE Energy Standard for Building except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, Standard 90.1. Schwedler served as ASHRAE’s chair of technical committee 1.5 on computer applications and he is a member of the professional development committee.

S&C Electric Co., Chicago, promoted two new members to its board of directors, Erle Nye and Judy Whinfrey. Nye is chairman emeritus of TXU Corp., now Energy Future Holdings Corp., and he has served as chairman of Edison Electric Institute, Electric Power Research Institute, North American Electric Reliability Council, and the Nuclear Energy Institute. Whinfrey is a Principal at Hewitt Assocs. LLC, and has more than 25 years of experience in human resources strategy, design of compensation and employee benefit programs, talent management, and human capital metrics. She is the founder of Hewitt’s Women in Leadership initiative and current chairman of the Board of Central DuPage Health System.

Dover Corp., Lansdale, Pa., acquired Neptune Chemical Pump Company, Lansdale, Pa., and it became part of Dover’s Pump Solutions Group within the fluid management segment.
