During his State of the Union Address last month, President Bush announced the launch of a $1.2 billion fuel cell initiative. The FreedomCAR and Fuel Initiative is intended to develop technology to produce hydrogen-powered fuel cells for use in cars, trucks, homes and businesses.

Planning is currently under way for the 4th Annual CSI Student Design Competition to be held at the upcoming CSI University in Philadelphia in June. The competition, whose theme is "Let Freedom Ring," will award $15,000 in scholarships.

Despite a current state of fiscal conservation, more than half of natural gas companies plan to construct new facilities in 2003, according to a recent study conducted by Basic Systems, a consulting engineering firm specializing in design and automation work for the natural gas industry.

High-powered ultrasound, currently used for cell disruption, particle size reduction, welding and vaporization, was determined to be 99.99% effective in killing bacterial spores after just 30 seconds of non-contact exposure, according to experiments conducted by researchers at Penn State and Ultran Labs, Boalsburg, Pa. The experiments are the first to show that non-contact ultrasound (NCU) can deactivate bacterial spores.
