NFPA seeks comments

The NFPA is seeking comments on proposed tentative interim amendments.

Tentative Interim Amendments (TIAs) proposed to the NFPA are published for public review and comment and also forwarded to the responsible Technical Committee and Technical Correlating Committee for processing. 

Anyone may submit a comment on a proposed TIA by the closing date indicated. To submit a comment (on company letterhead), please identify the number of the TIA and forward to the Secretary, Standards Council, 1 Batterymarch Park, Quincy, MA 02169-7471. 

The Technical Committee considers comments received by the date indicated before final action is taken on the proposed TIA. The Standards Council then reviews the technical committee's ballot results, the public comments, and any other information that has been submitted to determine whether to issue the TIA. Anyone wishing to address the Council should contact the Codes and Standards Administration Department .

A TIA is tentative because it has not been processed through the entire codes  and standards making procedures. It is interim because it is effective only between editions of the document. A TIA automatically becomes a proposal of the proponent for the next edition of the document. As such, it then is subject to all of the procedures of the codes  and standards making process.

• One of my clients had asked that we provide a construction period firee prevention specification for steel water tank construction. I had one, and had asked for Fire Department review and the specification requried fire department review of the contractor's proposed measures. With the high risk of fire in southern California, we thought it a good idea if the fire Department could get a look at the measures before an event, not after.
  
  Unfortunately, the fire Department never reviewed and responded. We had one meeting and no further phone calls after that.
  
  Do you have any constrcution typoe fire prevention specifications we could cannabalize from? We havea separate water wagon on site, designated smoking area, outside welding time-of-day restrictions and grinding guards. We also have a smoke watch requirement. Is there anything else, short of having the fire department review and inspect fire prevention measures?
