2006 National Fuel Gas Code Published

By Consulting Specifying Engineer Staff -- Consulting-Specifying Engineer, 11/7/2005 1:00:00 AM

The just-published 2006 National Fuel Gas Code contains new options for installing natural gas service and natural gas appliances, according to the American Gas Assn., which cosponsors the code with the National Fire Protection Assn.

Some of the significant revisions in the new code include:

  • Piping requirements, including new and expanded pipe sizing tables and new rooftop support requirements.

  • Venting revisions, including permitting Type B vents to be installed in outdoor insulated chases and revising vent-connector length limits.

  • Appliance installation updates, including new requirements for appliances located in attics, new options for appliance shut-off valve locations and revised appliance connections.

“The new National Fuel Gas Code is the country's premier model fuel gas installation code. It contains state-of-the art requirements to help ensure that fuel gas installations are safely installed,” said Paul Cabot, administrator of the National Fuel Gas Code for the American Gas Association. “The National Fuel Gas Code Committee has responded to the needs of code users by, for example, expanding the pipe sizing tables for longer pipe runs."

A detailed summary of this year’s revisions is at www.aga.org/nfgc.
