Italian firm Datalogic SpA—a manufacturer of barcode readers, data collection mobile computers, and RFID has acquired DATASENSOR SpA, an Italian company that makes photoelectric devices for detection, safety, measurement, and inspection. According to the acquiring company, the move will strengthen its market position in the industrial automation sector.

Southfield, Mich.-based Skanska USA Building Inc. and joint venture partner Barton Malow have been named construction manager and design-builder for the William Beaumont Hospital project in Troy, Mich. The project—which started in June 2007 and is expected to wrap in October 2010--includes a 223,000-sq-ft emergency center and critical care tower, and a three-story ambulatory care center. The project also involves vertical expansion of the West Tower, loading dock and powerhouse expansion, a 5,400-sq-ft MRI addition and a connector bridge linking the existing main campus to the new ambulatory center on the hospital’s east campus. Skanska’s share comprises 51% of the program’s $213 total price tag.

The Fagan Co., a mechanical contractor in Kansas City, Kan., has been named a GreenStar Contractor by the Mechanical Services Contractors of America. The award is awarded by the MCSA to member contractors deemed by the association to have demonstrated a superior record of environmental responsibility. Only 11 MSCA contractors across the country have achieved GreenStar status to date.
 
New York City-based MDM P.C. Consulting Engineers received a 2008 Gold Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York The organization granted the award for designing mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and safety systems for the New York City Dept. of Sanitation’s Brooklyn Community Districts 1 and 4 vehicle garage maintenance and office facilities.

McDonough Bolyard Peck Inc. a construction consulting firm headquartered in Fairfax, Va., has opened its tenth regional office in Berwyn, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia. According to firm president/COO Blake V. Peck, PE, CCM, the new office comes amid the firm’s increased number of construction projects in that state.
