New Products for Power Quality and Reliability – 2006-10-23

Earth ground testers perform all four types of ground-resistance measurements. The new models feature the “stakeless” testing method, as well as providing “selective” testing, the classic 3- and 4-pole fall of potential and 4-pole soil resistivity testing. Designed for use with comprehensive predictive maintenance programs for industrial, field service and utility applications, the testers are able to measure earth ground loop resistances using only clamps. Voltage regulators are available in five new options:1.5-, 2.2-, 3-, 5- and 6-kVA tower models. The new models join the manufacturer’s 1-kVA to 3-kVA rackmount systems. Acting as a solid-state generator, the system regenerates new AC power from the utility and supplies connected equipment with clean power. The units can also perform 50/60-Hertz frequency conversion for worldwide 230-volt applications in a 20-lb. package. For more about the SVR series by Falcon Electric, click here .

Motor protection relay calculates motor speed from the voltage and current and the electrical model of the motor. Knowing the speed, it accurately calculates the rotor heat, solving high-inertia starting problems. Accurate heat calculation also minimizes the cooling period required between starts for all motors. The small footprint and flexible mounting options allow easy retrofit without cutting or drilling. For more about Model 710 from SEL, click here .

Power-conversion developer kit is designed to speed and simplify the development of power-conversion systems utilized in a variety of applications such as wind and solar farms, fuel cells for stationary and mobile applications, variable-speed motor drives, energy storage and defense systems. Engineers and lab managers can use the system to create power-conversion subsystems while they devote their full attention to other critical needs.
