IMS Research LogoAccording to the IMS Research report “The Chinese Market for Motion Controls – 2010”: Because of the high demand for motion control products used in end-equipments and machinery, the Chinese GMC (general motion controls) market is forecast grow to $1.65 billion by 2014, and the CNC motion controls market to $1.25 billion.

According to Wilmer Zhou, market research analyst, “Industry sectors such as machine tools, and textile, rubber & plastics, printing, and packaging & labelling machinery, accounted for nearly 80% of the Chinese motion controls market in 2009 in terms of revenues. These industries use many motion control products, and will continue to dominate the Chinese motion controls market in the coming years.

Although the electronics & electronics assembly and semiconductor machinery markets experienced a huge decline in 2009, they have rebounded in 2010, as demand for semiconductor and electronics products has recovered. China is one of the world’s most important electronics & electronics assembly production bases. Sales of motion controls to this sector are forecast to continue to grow strongly over the longer term. In addition, sectors such as food, beverage & tobacco and medical & scientific equipment, which are closely related to stable consumer markets, were less affected during the economic downturn.

Another market driver is the increasing utilization of motion controls in new applications and industries. With OEMs becoming more familiar with motion control products, motion controls are increasingly being used in ‘‘non-traditional’’ sectors. Although such industries represent only a small portion of the motion control market, they offer good opportunities for small and medium sized motion control suppliers to establish business.. For instance, in the last two years, some newcomers have achieved tremendous growth in wind-power pitch system applications and pumping unit solutions. Other industries in this group include glass working machinery, material transformation machinery, material handling equipment, paper & paperboard machinery, renewable energy, and woodworking machinery.
