This presentation discusses the results of ASHRAE RP-1292, which discovered the excessive amounts of leakage in typical parallel boxes, and changed the notion of them being more efficient than series boxes. The significant differences between ECM and PSC motors will be discussed, showing the major energy advantages of the ECM and when those benefits are realized. Finally, the requirements of ASHRAE 90.1 regarding VAV boxes are discussed as well as the relationship between AHRI and ASHRAE to meet these requirements.
