Siemens to provide hardware, software, and services for U.S. Navy power monitoring project

The company will supply advanced electrical power meters, WinPM.Net energy monitoring software and implementation engineering services for the Navy's Southwest Advanced Metering Infrastructure project.


Siemens Industry Inc. will be providing power meteringequipment and services for the U.S. Navy's Southwest Advanced MeteringInfrastructure (AMI) project in a joint project with American Systems.

The contract to furnish and install advanced electricalmetering infrastructure at various locations throughout the Navy's SouthwestRegion is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).

The U.S. Navy recently launched its Advanced MeteringInfrastructure Program to establish an energy usage baseline, collectinformation on energy consumption and discover ways to reduce consumption andlower costs through the improved allocation of energy resources. This projectalso shows its ongoing commitment to the Energy Policy Act of 2005, a mandaterequiring all federal agencies to install advanced metering devices thatprovide daily usage data across all installations.

Siemens is supplying advanced electrical power meters,WinPM.Net energy monitoring software as well as implementation engineeringservices. Siemens also received orders for project management services alongwith gas, water, and steam flow meters that provide data to the WinPM.Netsystems.

The Siemens system will enable the allocation and managementof electricity, natural gas, steam and water at each base location and providethat data to the Navy for further analysis.
