Profit potential of reshoring on agenda at IMTS

Harry Moser of Reshoring Initiative to team with AMT at event

05/31/2012

Bringing manufacturing jobs back to the United States will be a hot topic at the International Manufacturing Technology Show 2012, taking place Sept. 10-15 in Chicago. Harry Moser, a 45-year manufacturing industry veteran and founder of the Reshoring Initiative, will present on the topic during the show to help U.S. manufacturers recognize the profit potential of utilizing local sourcing and production as well as the critical role they can play in strengthening the economy. Also, in conjunction with IMTS, the Reshoring Initiative and The Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT) are providing manufacturing companies that have been successful with reshoring the opportunity to gain free publicity at the show.

Moser will present on reshoring from the IMTS main stage, located between the north and south halls of the McCormick Place, on Tuesday, Sept. 11, Thursday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. each day. He will explain how reshoring is an efficient means of reducing imports, increasing exports and regaining manufacturing jobs in the United States. Furthermore, he will discuss how reshoring helps manufacturers recover from offshoring’s poor quality, trade secret thefts, supply chain disruptions and lengthy delivery times.

The “Manufacturing Technology Drives Reshoring” program hosted by the Reshoring Initiative and AMT is an opportunity for manufacturers to promote how their technology enables their customers to be globally competitive while accelerating the revitalization of the domestic economy. By visiting the Reshoring Initiative website at www.reshorenow.org/resources/cases and completing a simple fill-in-the-blanks form by Aug. 15, manufacturers can share their reshoring success stories for a chance to gain publicity on IMTS.com, IMTStv and reshorenow.org as well as be highlighted during Moser’s reshoring presentations at IMTS.

Supported by 27 companies and trade associations, the Reshoring Initiative is highly engaged in bringing manufacturing jobs back to the United States. In fact, in January, Moser attended the White House’s Insourcing American Jobs Forum where President Obama asked him to explain what costs American companies often overlook in their sourcing decisions.

Part of the Reshoring Initiative’s mission involves proprietary Total Cost of Ownership Estimator software that’s free and available to manufacturers at www.reshorenow.org. With the Estimator, users can account for all relevant factors when determining their total cost of ownership, including overhead, balance sheet, corporate strategy and other internal and external business costs. The Reshoring Initiative also engages companies that have brought work back to the United States to help publicize their successes in doing so.
