IMTS 2004: Mazak releases HyperGear laser

Chicago, IL— Mazak Laser Corp. is launching its new HyperGear 2-D laser cutting system at IMTS 2004, Sept. 8-15, at McCormick Place. HyperGear incorporates more than 20 patented, intelligence features designed to automatically provide optimum setup, maintenance notification, and fastest cutting speeds for every material type and thickness, all without operator intervention.

These feature allow HyperGear’s owners to use less-skilled operators compared to other laser cutting systems. It also allows users to improved cash flow by processing more parts per working day, according to Mazak.

HyperGear's other intelligent functions include:

  • Automatic torch and nozzle changer, plus automatic setup of focus lens position, as well as nozzle to material distance and beam adjustments. These features allow ideal setup for every cutting application and the lowest possible setup time with no operator intervention.

  • Nanosecond PREview 640 PC control and Hyperlinear drives. Mazak says these two patented features allow HyperGear to cut at unmatched speeds, but with the precision to maintain perfect corners, tight dimensional accuracy and roundness on contours. Air-cooled linear motors and stainless, sealed protection covers don't require costly chillers or bellows.

  • Intelligent maintenance notification system. Sensors, such as those in the internal and external beam delivery systems, alert operators in advance of needed maintenance. HyperGear also features intelligent nozzle inspection and cleaning.

  • Quick-change piercing gun. Combined with Mazak software, which automatically determines the optimum sheet pierce sequence, the piercing torch provides fast, stable piercing of thick plate, while reducing heat build-up.

In addition, Hypergear’s 4,000 W and 2,500 models can process from the thinnest painted galvanized steel up to 1-in mild steel, and is available with a 5 x 10 ft. bed. Automated material handling equipment designed for efficient production processing of sheet metal and plate is also available.
