Dear Website - The First in a Series

This is the first in what I hope will be an ongoing series of articles that will look at common web site issues, what they are and  issues with web sites and their administration in order to provide tips and tools for getting better at managing your online presence.

Over the next several months I hope to tackle questions from my fabulous readers (this means you) and other sorts of stuff like -
  • How to build a better website
  • Search Optimization tips & tricks
  • Paid Search pitfalls - where you should spend your money.
  • What is social networking and how can it help my business
  • What the heck is a twitter and why should I care.
  • Blogs and why you should write
  • Web analytics and their role in online decision making

If you were to have a conversation with your website, what do you think it would tell you?

The site would probably tell you who was looking for your product or service, where they came from, where they went on the site to and get this, you can also find out why they left. Some of you know much of this already. For you I'll be rehasing much of what you know, but whenever I think I know something and listen anyway, I almost always pick up an "aha" type nugget that ties loose ends together. The reality is that your site is more important than a business card and makes a lasting impression.

Quick show of hands - How many of you think you lost business because your site stinks?

Next in the series - "Dear Website - What have you done for me lately?" This piece will be a look through your web analytics software - if you just said "what's that" you need to read it - and what it can tell you about your users and your site.

Nice chatting with all of you! If anyone wants to get in touch directly or has thoughts for future posts please drop me a note to Steve at TheKrullGroup.com (ps, we write it like that so the spammers don't pick it up)
