Flooring System Helps Protect Electronics from Destructive Electrostatic Discharge

-- Consulting-Specifying Engineer, 6/18/2007 2:04:00 PM

Valspar Flooring, Wheeling, Ill., a division of Valspar Corp., is helping quality-sensitive manufacturers achieve higher levels of protection against electrostatic discharge with its ESD-conductive and static-dissipative flooring systems.

"Valspar's versatile, component-based ESD flooring systems are an integral part of a comprehensive ESD protection system," said Lysa Young, marketing manager. "They can be applied to floors at every critical stage of plant operations, from inventory and assembly to testing and shipping."

Electrostatic discharge costs industry billions of dollars annually stemming from ESD damaged electronic components, boards and assemblies. Formulated to meet stringent S20.20 and SEMI E78 standards, the flooring systems are designed to assure consistent ESD properties across the entire plant floor, providing excellent static control in industries where electronic components or volatile processing chemicals are involved.
Applied in three layers—a primer coat, a low VOC conductive (25,000 ohms to one million ohms) or static dissipative (one million ohms to one billion ohms) ground plane, and an epoxy or ultrathane topcoat—the ESD systems are customizable to a plant's performance and aesthetic requirements.
