Breaking the Code

Staff -- Consulting-Specifying Engineer, 6/1/2002

Now that the 2002 National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) is on the street, the code's developers at the National Fire Protection Association are offering several opportunities for users to become more familiar with changes and updates.

The necforum, to be held Sept. 25-27 in Schaumburg, Ill., presents important information on new code specifications, along with interpretations from code-writing experts. The three-day program includes educational sessions organized into four tracks: codes campus, electrical safety, maintenance and emerging issues.

Another opportunity to learn about recent code changes—and earn continuing education units—is an online seminar series. The 2002 Changes Online Seminar is an eight-hour program that involves a full discussion of all the major changes in the NEC code, along with interactive question-and-answer sessions. Highlights include discussions of new code articles on fuel cells, personnel-safety requirements and hazardous-location requirements.

For those unable to attend the forum, a set of travelling, three-day seminar programs are scheduled for a number of road locations, including Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Addison, Texas, in June, and San Francisco and Philadelphia in August.
