• S&C Electric Company, Chicago, reported that longtime President and Chairman of the Board John R. Conrad died on Aug. 30, 2005, at the age of 89. Mr. Conrad was at the helm of S&C for more than 50 years.
• Siemens Buildings Technologies, Buffalo Grove, Ill., has announced that Rick Walker, senior national energy services manager, has been elected to the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Existing Buildings Core Committee.
• The National Fire Protection Assn. has assigned Nancy McNabb to its Washington, D.C. office and named her director of government affairs for NFPA. In her new role, McNabb will work with congressional and federal agencies, as well as allied organizations, to promote NFPA policies and positions.
• The International Firestop Council, Westford, Mass., has added two new members to its roster: DuraSystems Barriers, Inc.,Vaughan, Ontario, Canada and Thomas J. Donnelly, Inc.,Shoreham, N.Y.
• The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), in its recently published report of advancements in the global lighting industry, has included four products from Lutron Electronics, Coopersburg, Pa.: Lutron’s EcoSystem controls, receptacle for dimming use, fixture mountable daylight sensor and its Sivoia QED controllable shade system.

• CAD developer Bentley Systems, Exton, Pa., will provide special assistance to A/E/C firms that have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina or are contributing to rebuilding efforts in the Gulf Coast region. Bentley will make available to them, at no charge, the design software they'll need to get back to work. In addition, the company will extend this assistance to organizations helping restore infrastructure along the Gulf Coast.
• Employees at Data Aire, Orange, Calif., a precision cooling equipment manufacturer, have collected $2,400 for Hurricane Katrina relief. The company provided matching funds for their contribution to the American Red Cross.
• EFI Global, Kingwood, Texas, a provider of forensic engineering, fire investigation, environmental, accident reconstruction and laboratory testing services, has placed experts at operational base camps in downtown New Orleans, Covington, La., Pass Christian, Miss. and several other points throughout the Gulf Coast region.
