  • LONMARK International announced the release of LONMARK Open System Definition, which defines the five key characteristics of open device networks: system behaviors, devices, connectivity, device interfaces and network software and tools.

  • A thermal comfort strategy developed at Kansas State University, Manhattan, provides tools to specify the physical characteristics of a room and determine if the occupants will be thermally comfortable. The project will be presented on Feb. 8 at ASHRAE’s 2005 Winter Meeting in Orlando, Fla.

  • The National Electrical Manufacturers Assn.’s primary industrial control index improved by 14% in the third quarter of 2004 from the same period last year. The third quarter’s level of 84.4 is the highest this statistic has been since 2001.

  • KJWW Engineering Consultants, Rock Island, Ill., has won a 2004 Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois for its work on the expansion of the Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Ill. The project also won a 2004 ARC Award. See page 44 for more.
