AMCA updates fire, shading control publications

The Air Movement and Control Assn. International Inc. (AMCA) has approved application manuals for fire and smoke/fire damper products, and sun control devices.

The Air Movement and Control Assn. International Inc. (AMCA) has approved application manuals for fire and smoke/fire damper products, and sun control devices.

The association approved AMCA 503-08, an application manual that helps outline the various types and of fire, ceiling, smoke, and fire/smoke damper products so that they may be properly selected, applied, installed, inspected, and maintained. It includes general information, as well as important points to consider when designing an installation, or when specifications are written for the purpose of such equipment.

In addition, AMCA has released AMCA 504-08, an application manual for sun control devices. The manual goes over information to be considered when designing, specifying, and detailing installations of sun control devices for aesthetics and energy cost savings. Exterior devices include overhangs, sun screens, and vertical fins have a number of advantages that contribute to a more sustainable building. Interior shading devices include light shelves and other products that reduce glare and help diffuse interior lighting.
