2018 40 Under 40: Eric Kamm, MBA; 32

Business Development Manager, Stanley Consultants, Muscatine, Iowa

BS industrial engineering and MBA, Iowa State University, Ames

Eric Kamm, MBA; 32Kamm is a business development manager at Stanley Consultants in Muscatine, Iowa. In just 10 years with Stanley Consultants, he has risen from the rank of college intern to that of trusted business development manager in charge of many of the firm’s oldest rural electric cooperative client accounts. A few of whom, such as Butler Country REC, have been clients for more than 85 years. In 2014, his mentor retired from a 40-year career with the company, much of which had been dedicated to serving longtime rural electric cooperative clients. Kamm received the highest professional compliment possible, at the age of 30, by being asked to step into his mentor’s shoes to take over management of the valued legacy clients. Currently a member of St. Mary Mathias Catholic Church in Muscatine, he has served on the church’s strategic planning committee, chaired its stained-glass restoration, organized and ran the marriage prep class, taught 10th-grade confirmation class, and is a member of the Facility Expansion Committee. Kamm is a 2-year board member of Crossroads, a nonprofit agency offering employment training, day habilitation, and community living assistance for mentally disabled individuals. In 2014, he was voted by his peers to serve as their representative on Stanley Consultants’ member advisory committee; in this position, he serves as a liaison between members and management, providing two-way communication on policies and activities. International travel, skiing, and hunting top his list of favorite pastimes. He first got the travel bug when he and his then fiancé, now wife, studied abroad for 6 months in Australia. They’ve since been to Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Fiji, Finland, and Italy—with a trip to London approaching. Kamm’s international travel strategy is to stay off the beaten path, avoid crowds, make connections with locals, and follow their travel recommendations.
