Electrical contractors say power quality projects now comprise approximately 60% of their revenue—with 40% expecting their PQ work to increase during the next few years—according to a new survey from the National Electrical Contractors Assn.

3. New Electronic Technology Advances Fuel Cell Development
A significant new breakthrough by researchers at Virginia Polytech is a major step in the development of fuel cell technology in increasing the efficiency and reducing the size and cost of fuel cells. Researchers have developed a highly efficient converter that can boost low DC voltage produced by solid oxide fuel cell stacks to the higher voltage required for conversion to AC. Go to story

UPS Systems Protect Test Labs from Power Outages The development of a storage area network (SAN) system involves long-term testing and requires uninterrupted power for periods up to several months. A few years ago, the facilities of a California-based leader in this field—located near an airport—were subject to momentary power disturbances due to “jet wash” from air traffic.
