Project type: New construction

Challenges

A project requirement was for the existing Powell facility to remain operational during construction. TriMet did not have the ability to completely close the base during construction because each of their depot bases was already overloaded.

The new facility is TriMet's first new bus operations facility since the late 1970s, and exceeded the Energy Trust of Oregon's standards for renewable energy and energy conservation. Architect of Record: Stantec Architecture

Solutions

Stantec developed a phasing strategy that would allow the CMGC partner and TriMet to plan accordingly, while having the ability to adjust as necessary.

The garage is designed as a pull through concept, which requires no backing of buses into or out of maintenance bays. Architect of Record: Stantec Architecture

  • Phase 1: Construction fuel and wash

  • Phase 2: Construct the initial phase of the AOM building (approximately 1/2 of the facility), move the reduced count bus fleet to the north end of the site

  • Phases 3-5: Construct bus yard, BEB infrastructure, Powell Boulevard, and SE 99th Street improvements

  • Phases 6-7: Construct second half of the AOM building, employee parking lot, permanent security fencing and gates.
