Researchers at Business Communications Co. ( www.bccresearch.com ) have projected future markets for fuel cells and uninterruptible power systems (UPS). The fuel cell market alone is projected to experience phenomenal growth:

Fuel cells. Estimated at $218 million for last year, the fuel cell market is forecasted to increase to $2.4 billion by 2005—growing at an average rate of more than 60% annually. Fuel-cell plants that generate electricity and usable heat can be built in sizes from 200 kilowatts to 100 megawatts, researchers report.

UPS. Growth in this market will average 12.7% from 2000 to 2005, reaching $11 billion in 2005. Flywheel UPS device sales in 2000 were $230 million.
