Autodesk, Inc., San Rafael, Calif., announced that Carl Bass, the company’s chief operating officer, has been named president and chief executive officer, effective May 1, 2006. Bass also has been appointed to the company’s expanded Board of Directors, effective immediately.

Baldor Electric Company, Fort Smith, Ark., announced that Roland S. Boreham, Jr., CEO from 1978 to 1981 and chairman from 1981 through 2004, passed away on February 5. Mr. Boreham began his career with Baldor in 1947, working for his father, who was a Baldor grinder representative in Los Angeles.

Bentley Systems, Exton, Pa., has acquired the assets of Cook-Hurlbert of Austin, Texas, a leading provider of engineering design software for electric and gas distribution networks. In other news from Bentley, the company announced a global licensing agreement with engineering and construction giant, Bechtel Corporation.

Emerson Climate Technologies, St. Louis, announced that China’s Ministry of Construction has awarded a heat pump system using Emerson’s Copeland Digital Scroll Heating technology with its highest endorsement as a “world leading” technology. This marks the first time in seven years that any new technology in China has received this top designation.

Hawaiian Electric Company, Honolulu, and S&C Electric, Chicago, recently held a dedication at Lalamilo Wind Farm near Waikoloa on the Big Island of Hawaii to mark the installation of the first S&C PureWave Electronic Shock Absorber (ESA), an innovative grid stabilizing device for wind farms.
