2021 40 Under 40: Michael Streich, EIT, 32
Senior Project Engineer - Mechanical, ESD; BS, Mechanical Engineering, University of Kansas
Streich started at ESD as an intern during the summer break of his junior year in college; he has now been working for the company for more than 10 years and currently has one of the longest tenures as a mechanical engineer in ESD’s mission critical facilities group. After moving to Chicago to begin his career after college, he joined the ASHRAE Illinois Chapter and became a member of the Young Engineers in ASHRAE. Over the past seven years, he has served as a judge for the ASHRAE Regional Technology Awards for the Illinois chapter. Streich now works with the technical leaders of ESD’s mission critical facilities group to develop in-house standards for computational fluid dynamics modeling and provides training and oversight to the group. He pushes his peers outside of their comfort zones, which has led to many of them to successfully develop CFD models and interpret the results. Streich is considered a thought leader at ESD and has honed his public speaking skills by working with his co-workers to present ASHRAE standards, codes and various design topics to his co-workers and at ASHRAE conferences. Additionally, Streich works with clients to understand their objectives and with the design team to determine what is possible, practical and how he and the team can deliver the best solution. Streich’s two favorite activities outside of work are entertaining his dogs and traveling with his fiancée. He’s happiest when he can combine the two.
