2021 40 Under 40: Jon Lee, PE, 33
Vice President, Hoefer Welker; BS, Architectural Engineering, Kansas State University
Lee, an engineer with both a technical consulting and sales background, recently jumped at the opportunity to start and lead a new MEP engineering division at Hoefer Welker. He oversees internal operations, staffing and revenue for the group. This opportunity challenges all the skills Lee has worked to hone in his career: the technical, engineering skills for which he studied in college as well as the leadership and relationship-building acumen he’s polished during his professional career. Not only is Lee focused on his profession, but he is also dedicated to the engineering industry as a whole. While providing technical and cutting-edge designs during the week, he also has housed up to three interns in his own home during the summer. Lee takes an active role in mentoring emerging professionals on their designs, providing them a hands-on opportunity to bridge the gap between the office and the field. But his passion and energy for helping people goes beyond the workplace. He spends many hours with friends and colleagues planning organizing and hosting charity events, in particular for The Aidan Project and The Dream Factory of Greater Kansas City. And Lee doesn’t just volunteer his time; he has also organized groups of individuals from work to participate. On summer weekends, you’ll find him and his fiancée at the Lake of the Ozarks with their families; in the winter, they’re likely on a mountainside somewhere snowboarding. They enjoy traveling abroad together to learn about and experience other cultures firsthand.
