Drawn to the firm’s focus on engineering high-performance, energy-efficient projects and creative design approach, Sharp joined CMTA in 2011. He has designed some of the region’s most sustainable projects including Berea College’s Deep Green Residence Hall, which is the highest-rated USGBC LEED dormitory in the world and has an Energy Star score of 100. He was the engineer and project manager for the 29-story Pinnacle Tower at Symphony Place in Nashville, which achieved LEED Gold Certification and is the first LEED certified skyscraper in Tennessee. With more than 18 years of experience, his broad knowledge of building systems includes power distribution, lighting, lighting control, fire alarm, voice and data, mechanical drives, emergency power generator systems, uninterruptible power supplies, lightning protection, security, closed-circuit TV, elevator control interfaces, and building automation for various markets including sports, entertainment, retail, commercial, educational, food service, justice, detention, and industrial. Sharp joined the Kentucky USGBC chapter as a member, was quickly elected to the board of directors, and is the current vice chair for the organization. He actively serves on the USGBC advocacy committee, which creates and promotes sustainable legislation. His previous experience as a contractor allows him to appreciate the challenges associated with design implementation in the field. He is an active member of the community and involves his family in a number of local community service organizations, such as Room at the Inn, a local homeless shelter program. He also volunteers to mentor high school students in the ACE Mentor Program. In addition to sports, Sharp loves spending time outdoors hiking and camping with his family.
