Hu is an electrical engineer and a health care market leader for WSP USA’s property and buildings team. Over the course of his career, Hu has designed and managed engineering teams for more than 3 million square feet of green field hospital and health care renovation projects. Career highlights include his responsibilities as electrical engineer for Battle Building at UVA Children’s Hospital, a 200,000-square-foot Outpatient Hospital; VCU Children’s Hospital of Richmond Pavilion, a 600,000-square-foot outpatient hospital; and project manager for AHN Wexford Hospital, a 340,000-square-foot inpatient hospital. Hu’s passion at work is the design of complex, redundant and energy-efficient systems. The design of campuswide infrastructure and central utility plants are among the types of technical projects he enjoys most. Hu also has shown an aptitude for being both a tremendous young leader in the office as well as a valuable consultant to clients. He is passionate about developing relationships with people and making projects more than just projects. He is an advocate of the engineering profession and enjoys engaging in mentorship programs to help new engineers find their path in the profession. He is an active and contributing member of the engineering community and belongs to the local ASHE chapter, AIA chapter and Illuminating Engineering Society. Hu gets excited about sharing his knowledge and experiences with others by speaking at annual engineering conferences and writing technical articles. Outside of work, Hu enjoys traveling, hosting friends and colleagues for game nights and barbecues and supporting his wife in her career in the space industry.
