Learning objectives:
- Understand the concept and value of emerging V2G technology and discover interface details required between charging plaza equipment and the general control guidelines.
- Learn about guidelines for successful installation and commissioning, and understand the concept of bi-directional charging and its impact on the grid.
- Provide general guidance for successful design, installation, operation and maintenance of EV charging plazas.
- Learn what is required to accomplish user-friendly EV charging station operation.
Electric vehicle (EV) charging plazas need sophisticated energy management systems to make a seamless and safe interconnection to the electric grid. It starts with the monitoring and control of EV charging profiles, where projecting charging station energy needs will be critical. Many of these charging plazas will have supplemental power sources such as a battery energy storage system (BESS) or other distribution energy resource systems (DERS) such as solar and wind energy. They have to function as a system, which aids in the collaboration between the plaza and the power grid. All this and more is why standards are important as EV deployment grows. EV fast charging plazas are complexes integrating a wide variety of digital technologies
and hardware/software, and grid interfaces requiring significant operational coordination. This presentation will delve into technical design development and commissioning process details of this emerging mainstream public technology.
