Power Industry Roundup: New Showcases, Expanding Partnerships

PowerGen, the annual showcase of the power industry, has announced upcoming shows in Asia and Europe. PowerGen Asia 2005 will be held in Singapore from Sept. 13 through 15. PowerGen Europe 2005 will take place in Milan, Italy, from June 28 through 30.

Algeria Electricity Expo, will convene in Algiers from July 2 through 4, offering attendees the opportunity to do business with local customers.

Emerson Network Power has announced that the Point Of Load Alliance (POLA), in which Emerson’s Astec Power is a member, is intending to jointly design and release products in accordance to the PMbus specification. The digital interface and control specification will make power conversion products more advanced and flexible without increasing complexity for the end user.

Pentadyne Power , Chatsworth, Calif., and Emerson have announced the successful demonstration of the Liebert FS flywheel power system with a 750-kVA Liebert Series 610 UPS. The Liebert FS is the result of a partnership between Liebert and Pentadyne designed to optimize Pentadyne’s Voltage Support Solution for Liebert UPS systems.

Phihong USA, Freemont, Calif., is the first manufacturer of external power supplies to be named a partner of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star Program. As a partner, a company’s products must meet strict energy-efficiency guidelines set by the EPA and the Department of Energy. On average, Energy Star models are 35% more efficient than conventional designs, and often are lighter and smaller in size.
