The Air Movement and Control Association International Inc. (AMCA International) has announced that the Board of Standards Review of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved the following documents:

• ANSI/AMCA STANDARD 510-09, "Methods of Testing Heavy Duty Dampers for Rating." 510-09 establishes testing methods used in measuring the performance of dampers used in the utility and heavy industry.
• ANSI/AMCA STANDARD 550-09, "Test Method for High Velocity Wind Driven Rain Resistant Louvers." 550-09 establishes uniform laboratory test methods and minimum performance ratings for water rejection capabilities of louvers intended to be used in high velocity wind conditions.

The products covered within the scope of ANSI/AMCA 510-09 include dampers, which are used to control flow of a gas (specific gas, a mixture of gas and air, or air alone) or to isolate one section of a duct system from another section of the system. The scope narrows to those dampers generally described as "custom design," "heavy duty," or "severe service," because such dampers are normally used in applications where elevated temperature, erosion and/or corrosion conditions exist.

The scope of ANSI/AMCA 550-09 is intended to demonstrate the acceptability of louver installations in facilities (essential and non-essential) that will remain in operation during high velocity wind conditions, and where water infiltration must be kept to manageable amounts.
