A Sneak Peak at Lightfair

With the coming of the vernal equinox, spring is certainly the season to talk more about light. Appropriately, the 15th annual Lightfair International trade show and conference runs March 31 through April 2 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, a suitable setting for a show geared toward artificial illumination. Light-reflective surface has a total light reflection of 98% and also achieves 95% solar radiation reflectance. Benefits include improved lighting efficiency and better lighting control and focus for manufacturers that use LED arrays. (MIRO-Silver by Alanod Aluminum GmbH)

Compact fluorescent light bulb employs a special coating that when exposed to fluorescent light, produces a photocatalytic reaction that is said to eliminate odors. The process begins to work 10 minutes after the bulb is turned on. The bulb must be exposed to the air to work effectively, and as such, should be used in an uncovered fixture or socket. Luminaires brochure provides information on units geared toward heavy-duty commercial, industrial and educational applications. The units are available with a choice of six anodized aluminium-covered prismatic glass reflectors and can be used with a wide range of high-pressure sodium and metal-halide lamps and ballasts. Ballasts flier provides specification information, catalog numbers, wiring diagrams and appropriate lamp applications for high-efficiency ballasts. The ballasts are said to provide up to 8% energy savings over standards electronic ballasts and even higher savings when used with energy-saving 30-watt T8 lamps. Switching system provides a single-panel option for small-to-medium switching applications, integrates an astronomic timeclock (ATC) and allows digital control for up to 48 circuits and 32 wallstations. Compact networked lighting controller integrates manual control, occupancy sensors, daylight harvesting, time-based control and building automation. It ships with two or four relays or dimmers (0-10 volts). (MicroPanel by Lighting Control & Design)

Tubular pulse-start lamp is 320 watts and is designed specifically for horizontal operation in the manufacturer’s Uni-Form H75 system. The system is rated for 30,000 initial lumens and 23,000 mean lumens and has a rated life of 20,000 hours. It produces 70% more effective lumens than high-pressure sodium systems.
