Born and raised in China, Mei developed a strong interest in architecture and engineering at a young age and went to an engineering university to study HVAC, an uncommon major in China. His passion led him to study at Purdue. After graduation, Mei planned to return to China when he interviewed at Cyclone Energy Group. He was hired on the spot after a 15-minute phone conversation, thanks to his talent and potential. Mei has risen from an entry-level team member to a senior leader in the span of less than six years. He leads the firm’s effort in building simulations and analytics, such as energy modeling, daylight analysis, computational fluid dynamics, 2D thermal transmission modeling, hygrothermal analysis, refrigeration modeling and geothermal studies. He oversees the technical aspects of all simulation projects and mentors junior engineers. He also focuses on improving efficiency and quality by establishing company databases, building prototype modeling templates and creating training programs. He has a passion in building energy codes and serves as a voting member on the newly formed Certification Committee of International Building Performance Simulation Association –USA, which seeks to lead the effort of promoting energy modeling in energy code compliance. At the beginning of the COVID pandemic, Mei saw the importance of staying connected and socializing in his simulation community. He and several friends started a Discord server for modelers around the world to come together and have a platform for real-time discussions. For fun, Mei and his wife enjoy cooking and exploring restaurants.
