A proud University of Florida graduate and Gator Engineering Award recipient, Dykes earned a degree with honors while working part-time as a mathematics tutor. As a student, he secured a summer internship with AEI, which led to a part-time position while he finished school and advanced to a full-time, entry-level engineering role post-graduation. Later, he progressed to senior project engineer and project manager, became a licensed professional engineer in numerous states, as well as achieving LEED accreditation and his Construction Document Technologist certification. His mechanical systems experience encompasses highly specialized components such as distance learning, vivaria, imaging suites, animal hospital spaces, tissue storage facilities, proton beam and linear accelerator facilities, biological containment laboratories, server rooms and cleanrooms. In addition to overseeing both project delivery and client relations, Dykes acts as a reliable resource and mentor who consistently promotes best practices. He helps cultivate and inspire the next generation of engineering professionals by being a guest speaker for various University of Florida classes, delivers continuing education courses for the American Institute of Architects and speaks regularly at national industry conferences. He is a member of BioFlorida and the International Institute for Sustainable Labs, where he has given presentations. Aside from his work, he is also an active member of his church and community, volunteering for the Seven Gables Food Ministry and providing support for UF Health neuro-oncology patients. He enjoys working around his house and engaging in outdoor activities, such as hiking, camping, rafting and backpacking with his wife and two children.
