2022 40 Under 40: Josh Thede, PE, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP, 31

An acoustical consultant since 2014 who currently works for Henderson Engineers, Thede views his profession as not just his job, but rather a vehicle for bettering people’s lives given the benefits of great acoustics on the human experience. Having worked on a dozen LEED projects and counting, Thede intimately understands the impact the building sector has on the natural environment and is an ardent advocate for adopting sustainable processes and procedures to help care for the planet. Accordingly, he is involved in a variety of environmental and philanthropic efforts within his community. Thede is the chairperson for the Sustainability Commission for the City of Mission, Kansas, the Kansas City suburb where he resides and he serves on the Transportation Council for his home county of Johnson County, Kansas He is also a co-founder of Drawdown of the Heartland, an organization focused on promoting solutions to climate change. In addition to being a member of the Acoustical Society of America and Institute of Noise Control Engineers, Thede has volunteered on the USGBC Central Plains Chapter MLAB Board, was the 2018 Central Plains Emerging Professionals Chair and was a Mentor for Green Schools Mentor Program. Outside of volunteering and working, Thede is an Eagle Scout who enjoys hiking, camping and biking. He shares his love for the great outdoors with his fiancée, to whom he proposed while on an outdoor excursion.
