Askren is an electrical engineer driven by a zest for life and a continuous desire to help others. His enthusiasm is coupled with a professionalism that helps him work out problems using his technical, troubleshooting and project management skills. Askren specializes in the design of substations, transmission and distribution lines. His substation experience includes physical design and multiple relay settings projects including differential, overcurrent and line relays. His distribution experience includes using staking design guides, GPS rover units and partner software and internally developed design software for field design and staking of overhead and underground 12.47/7.2 kV distribution lines. Designs have used rural utilities service and client-derived construction specifications. His transmission experience includes design in PLS-CADD, preparation of drawing sets and bidding and contracting services. He soon moved on to engineer-procure-construct contracts, which became a passion for him. His attention to detail and enthusiasm made him a natural for the fast-paced projects and he soon became a project manager. It isn’t uncommon for Askren to juggle multiple projects at once and give each one the time and attention it deserves. Outside of work, Askren is an avid fisherman and received a master angler award during a trip to Canada. He’s also a bird-watcher and is actively involved in trying to identify every bird he can in Iowa. Askren is an avid traveler and he and his wife are keen on sharing their love of cultures and new experiences with their three children.
