While at PBA, Frantz’s focus has been on renovation and new construction of commercial and institutional facilities. Frantz has emerged as one of the most impactful young engineering professionals at PBA and has played major roles in MEP design for some of the highest profile development projects in southeast Michigan, including two landmark high-rise towers. His other major works include the renovation and expansion of a 2.5-mile district steam tunnel network, upgrading a river water-cooled municipal chiller plant and the designs and energy modeling for several LEED certified buildings. At PBA, Frantz serves as a mentor for college co‐ops and new hires in his department. His mentees are familiarized with the phrase, “reducing unknown unknowns,” as it forms the core of Frantz’s approach of exposing them to a diverse set of engineering fundamentals and applications. He has become an internal subject matter expert in several fields and is frequently consulted by his peers and clients for second opinions on critical life safety topics such as elevators, stairwell pressurization and smoke dampers. Frantz has been a member of the Detroit chapter of ASHRAE since 2017 and in 2019, became Chairperson of the Young Engineers in ASHRAE committee. Frantz also serves as an engineering mentor to his former high school’s robotics team. Aside from work, he enjoys traveling outdoors, photography and renovating his historic house. In 2018 he visited 23 states in a 24‐hour period, breaking the previous world record.
