Principal, CMTA, Prospect, Ky.

University of Louisville,
BS Mechanical Engineering

Douglas Hundley Jr. integrates his 4 years of contracting experience and 12 years of mechanical engineering experience into his building designs, which span more than 20 states and Canada. He is knowledgeable of geothermal HVAC design, having designed more than 160 miles of vertical bores—40% of CMTA’s Louisville office total. Hundley also helps K-12 schools and hospitals make energy-smart decisions. He helped the Norton Brownsboro Hospital obtain a LEED for Existing Buildings Certification in Louisville, Ky., making it the first LEED Certified in-patient facility in the state. Hundley’s colleagues consider him to be the office expert on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program. Many of Hundley’s projects are among the most energy-
efficient in the country, with Energy Star scores in the mid- to high-90s. With his extensive knowledge of energy innovation, Hundley convinces his clients to try new, innovative system strategies. He helped the National Guard decide to use geothermal-radiant floor heating for a Black Hawk helicopter maintenance facility and engineered the first completely geothermal hospital in Kentucky. Hundley’s passion for conserving the environment extends beyond the office. With help from his father, Hundley is building a 2,300-sq-ft log cabin from the ground up. He hopes to enjoy the cabin with his wife and three sons once it is completed.
