You know a client appreciates your work when it decides to replicate that work in all of its new buildings. That’s what happened when Ravenscroft joined the Arup team that helped design the Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center, a 1.4-million-sq-ft hospital and medical office space. Soon, he became lead electrical engineer for the Kaiser Templates project, which created a prototype hospital design that was applied to four other sites. He also helped to develop a standard for space planning and infrastructure needs for low-voltage system technologies, which was applied to all new facilities and has helped Kaiser save time and money on design costs. Ravenscroft is one of three senior electrical leaders at Arup’s San Francisco office, where he plans engineering resources, training, and technical design reviews. His colleagues regard him very highly, and he was the clear choice for project manager of the firm’s San Francisco headquarters relocation. Ravenscroft worked with senior principals to search out new office space and eventually delivered the project at 10% under budget, on a tight move-in deadline. He is currently project managing one of San Francisco’s largest building projects, which involves coordinating with a dozen different engineering disciplines, design consultant groups located in San Francisco and London, and sometimes more than 100 staff members at a time. Despite his heavy workload, he makes time to serve the company as the San Francisco Site Safety Coordinator and Health and Safety committee member. He has also given presentations to the Arup office and the University of Colorado-Boulder about sustainable building practices. Ravenscroft is a seasoned chef and likes to experiment with different cuisines; his favorite dish to make is chicken tikka masala with homemade naan. He and his wife enjoy skiing every winter and look forward to introducing their daughters, Chloe, 3, and Anna, 1, to the sport in the coming years.
