Design and engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti has opened an office in San Francisco. The new location will be led by John Abruzzo, a 14-year company veteran formerly in charge of the Philadelphia office. The new office is the company’s third West Coast location, joining operations in Los Angeles and Irvine, Calif.

HGA Architects and Engineers, based in Minneapolis, has been tapped to design an addition and renovation to the American Swedish Institute. The commission includes a new Nelson Education and Cultural Center, an international cultural center, and improvements to the historic 1908 Turnblad mansion.
The University Mechanical & Engineering Contractors Inc. subsidiary of Norwalk, Ct.-based EMCOR Group Inc. has been awarded the mechanical systems contract for expansion of the Phoenix Children’s Hospital. The company will install the mechanical systems involved in the expansion of the 759,000-sq-ft, 11-story patient care tower, including mechanical systems for the 80,000 sq ft of shell space and new patient rooms on the upper seven floors (43,000 sq ft each).
Danish-headquartered electro-mechanical company Danfoss marks its 75th anniversary this year. To celebrate the landmark, 200 employees at the North American headquarters in Baltimore sported commemorative polo shirts and shared a birthday cake.
