• A Harris Interactive survey showed that 85% of youth are not interested in a future engineering career, reported American Machinist. Students aged 8 to 17 said they preferred “a more exciting career than engineering” and did not “feel confident enough in their math or science skills.

• A Harris Interactive survey showed that 85% of youth are not interested in a future engineering career, reported American Machinist. Students aged 8 to 17 said they preferred “a more exciting career than engineering” and did not “feel confident enough in their math or science skills.” Interestingly, “the largest number of kids ranked math (22%) and science (17%) as their favorite subjects.”

• ASHRAE unveiled a prototype building energy label at its 2009 Annual Conference in Louisville, Ky. The labeling program, “Building Energy Quotient” will be implemented this fall and focuses solely on energy use, unlike existing programs. ASHRAE currently is working with major real estate developers and hopes for a widespread launch of the full program in 2010.
