New Appointments at NFPA and SFPE

The board of directors of the National Fire Protection Assn. has appointed Shane M. Clary, Ph.D., of Livermore, Calif., to the NFPA Standards Council. His appointment was effective January 1, 2006.

Dr. Clary has worked in the automatic fire alarm and central station security industry since 1974, and is currently vice president of Codes and Standards Compliance for Bay Alarm Company, Pacheco, Calif. In his position, he is responsible for the design of all fire alarm systems installed by the company and oversight of testing and maintenance of alarms.

Dr. Clary has been a strong supporter of NFPA for many years and an outspoken advocate of its codes and standards. He serves on technical committees for NFPA 1, 70, 72, 720, 730, 731 and 5000.

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers has named Art Cote, P.E., as its president for 2006. Cote has served SFPE at all levels, including secretary-treasurer. He was honored by elevation to the member grade of SFPE Fellow in 1992.

Cote is a professional engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park.
