Latest edition of fire reference from U.S. Fire Administration

Gregory Cade, FEMA Assistant Administrator of the U.S. Fire Administration, announced the latest edition of “Fire in the United States”. The 14th edition covers the 10-year period from 1995-2004 and focuses on the national fire problem and provides an overview of the fire problem in structures, vehicles and other mobile properties.

The purpose of the report is to aid in the fire service, media and public with fire loss information that can be used to set priorities and establish fire programs that will serve as the guide for fire data analyses at the state and local government levels. The report also includes a detailed analysis of the residential and non-residential structure fire problems in a stand-alone report.

The data on firefighter casualties is published in two reports, “Firefighter Fatalities in the United States”and “Fire-related Firefighter Injuries in 2004”. The primary source of data is the National Fire Incident Reporting system, along with the National Fire Protection Association, National Center for Health Statistics, State Fire Marshals’ offices, U.S. Census Bureau and the Consumer Price Index.
