In terms of national rankings of green building owners, Georgia DNR ranks third behind the City of Seattle and PNC Bank. Emory University in Atlanta is number 4 on the list.

David Freedman, chief engineer with Georgia DNR, estimates that his organization is saving 30% of annual costs on energy and 40% on water, thanks to the sustainable measures.

Georgia has 20 LEED-certified buildings altogether. Florida has six, North Carolina has five, South Carolina has four, Tennessee has three and Kentucky and Alabama each have one.
