Corporate complex named Green Development of the Year
The National Assn. of Industrial Office Properties recognizes the LEED Gold-certified HSBC's North American headquarters.
The 550,000-sq-ft North American headquarters of banking giant HSBC in Mettawa, Ill., has been chosen as Green Development of the Year by the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP).
The recognition is part of NAIOP’s 21st annual Awards for Excellence program. Honors are shared by Chicago-based developer Hamilton Partners ; Environmental Systems Design Inc. (ESD), the Chicago-based building systems design engineer and sustainability consultant; and Wright Heerema Architects , also in Chicago..The new office complex–which achieved LEED Gold certification—consists of six floors of office space, a fitness center, full service kitchen and dining facility, banking services, mission critical data center, and career development center with training facilities. Among the eco-friendly features including a water system that reduces wastewater generation by 82% and water usage by 68% via low-flow fixtures, dual-flush toilets and a 30,000-gal. rainwater reuse system. Other sustainability-minded features including minimized site disturbance (maintaining open spaces, existing ponds, and surrounding prairie) energy-efficient envelope, green roof, and underfloor air distribution system.
