Zumbrun started his career in the acoustical industry with a literal bang. His first musical gig out of Purdue University was at a punk rock recording studioThere he worked as an audio engineer with groups from around the worldSoon after his musical career began, he felt the call to not only use spaces but to design them and he accepted a position as an acoustical consultant with Thorburn Associates in 2013. He quickly rose to the level of senior consultant after only a year. His hard work and dedication continued to take him far and wide with projects as diverse as power plants and theme parks in locations as far as Beijing and Moscow. Zumbrun feels that using science and technology positively impacts the human experience, both during the design and at the conclusion of the project. At the firm, his acoustical consulting includes architectural room acoustics, mechanical noise and vibration control, sound isolation and environmental noise control. His dedication to the professional community is evident as well, with regular teaching engagements for groups like the American Institute of ArchitectsZumbrun’s experience mentoring youth in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program led him to become a licensed foster parent; nine different children have found a place in his family’s home over the past several years. He is an elder at Trinity Park Church. Zumbrun was the project lead of a churchwide generosity initiative seeking to raise $2.1 million.
