2019 40 Under 40: Mikhail “Misha” A. Zeltser, PE, LEED AP, LC; 39
Vice President of Engineering, Power Design Inc., St. Petersburg, Florida BS Architectural Engineering, Kansas State University, Manhattan MBA, University of South Florida, Tampa
As vice president of engineering at Power Design Inc., Zeltser oversees all design-build engineering-related efforts nationwide, which add up to 146 active projects currently either in design or construction administration, with an electrical construction value of $696 million. He joined Power Design in 2009 as an electrical engineer, making a unique transition from the consulting to the construction side of the industry. Before Power Design, Zeltser was with an international consulting engineering firm, where he split his time between health care and entertainment/hospitality divisions, designing hospital towers and theme parks. He gained a tremendous amount of hands-on experience in the design of power and lighting systems there, which became the technical bedrock of his engineering career. When he joined Power Design, there were only three people in the engineering department. Within two years, Zeltser received his Lighting Certified Professional accreditation and was made the manager of the engineering department. During that time, he helped create a tool that, through Microsoft Excel, helped automate and significantly reduce the time needed to perform load calculations. In 2014, he was promoted to vice president of engineering, which at that time made him the youngest member of the executive team. While growing the engineering division nationally from coast to coast, he added two additional departments offering lighting design and mechanical/plumbing engineering services. To improve design quality, Zeltser created and implemented a quality control process that created gates in the design process coinciding with milestone submissions. Zeltser participates as a Big Brother and mentor to children. He and his engineering department have participated in the Keep Pinellas Beautiful Beach Cleanup and a Heart Walk in the Tampa Bay Raymond James Stadium. In addition, he has volunteered his time to act as a judge in a science, technology, engineering and mathematics competition. Zeltser enjoys camping, hiking, golfing and travel with his wife.
