Saahil Tumber, PE, LEED AP, HBDP, 31

Senior Associate, Environmental Systems Design Inc. (ESD), Chicago

BS Mechanical Engineering, Maharashtra Institute of Technology, Pune, India

MS Mechanical Engineering, University of Michigan

Tumber joined Environmental Systems Design Inc. (ESD) in 2008 as a mechanical engineer in the Mission Critical Facilities (MCF) group and made an immediate impact with his technical prowess and knowledge. Within a few months, he was entrusted with leading the mechanical design for projects involving data centers, trading areas, and other critical facilities requiring high resiliency and availability. As a senior associate in the firm’s MCF practice, he is working as lead mechanical engineer and is responsible for overall design of HVAC systems. His data center experience includes enterprise and co-location projects. While a student at each location, Tumber was involved with the literacy campaign in India, during which he taught basic literacy skills to underprivileged children, many of them living below the poverty level. He was a core member of the Fun Run Committee and helped organize the 3-mi (5k) charity run, an annual tradition at the University of Michigan. He is an avid reader and prefers to catch up when commuting to and from work. Although he prefers science fiction, he also likes to read engineering journals and magazines to keep abreast with the latest trends and developments in the industry. Tumber loves to travel in his free time-and hopes to visit the remote corners of the world. He and his friends recently completed a 36-hour, no-sleep adventure that began in Las Vegas and ended with a trek at the Grand Canyon. He likes to unwind after work by exercising, mixing weight training and running to keep things interesting.
