Monte K. Engelkemier, PE, 36 Project Principal, Senior Mechanical Engineer, Stanley Consultants, Muscatine, Iowa BS Mechanical Engineering, Kansas State University; MS Mechanical Engineering, University of Kansas
Engelkemier joined Stanley Consultants in 2005 as a senior mechanical engineer, and was promoted to project principal in the energy services market sector in 2012. Engelkemier is a subject matter expert on pipe stress analysis. This involves existing pipe support assessment and modification, and new pipe support design. In addition to pipe stress analysis, he also does piping system design, design supervision, project management, and construction inspections. His project experience includes coal, combined-cycle, and nuclear power plants; chilled water plants; desalination plants; and district heating and cooling piping systems. Engelkemier has developed databases for tracking pipe supports during design and construction, and evaluated different power cycles for cogeneration applications as well as determining fuel costs for each cycle. While at Kansas State University (KSU), Engelkemier served as teaching assistant for fluid mechanics and machine design classes and as a lab instructor for physics lab sections. His pipe stress analysis expertise and his KSU teaching experience gave him the skills necessary to develop and teach a high-energy piping course that covers the basics of ASME piping codes, pipe support design, and pipe stress analysis modeling techniques. He has taught this class in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Shanghai. He has been an active member of ASME for 15 years and sits on several piping code committees. Outside of work, Engelkemier enjoys spending quality time with his family, along with golfing, biking, and camping.
