Pires leads the Toronto office of Enermodal Engineering, where he has been responsible for dozens of Canada Green Building Council projects including healthcare facilities, high-end condos, social housing, community centers, libraries, recycling centers, and office complexes. He identifies project opportunities with a practical understanding of green building systems and budget realities. His passion for sustainability transcends the professional to include his personal philosophy and aspirations. At Enermodal, he established the Toronto office and oversees and mentors a staff that has grown under his leadership from three to 13 green building professionals. He quickly distills complex concepts, explaining them to diverse groups and enabling all team members to contribute. As a recognized green expert he has served as an awards program judge and conference presenter, and has been quoted in magazine articles. Pires has repeat clients who appreciate his superior attention to detail, technical proficiency, and professional manner. His deep-rooted principles are a result of spending seven summers as a child in rural Portugal, taking care of animals, eating food from the land around him, and experiencing what it means to rely on community as a way of life. He is multilingual and has also lived in England, France, Sweden, and Belgium. He enjoys Portuguese and Italian family traditions such as annual wine making and preserving tomato sauce.
