Lee Harrelson, PE, LEED AP, 31

Owner, Principal, Senior Mechanical Engineer, TM/R Engineering, Arlington, Va.

University of Virginia, BS Mechanical Engineering; The George Washington University, MS Engineering Management

Harrelson’s rapid rise in the consulting engineering business started with an internship at Fermi National Accelerator Lab in Illinois and has progressed to an owner of TM/R, which he helped build into a multimillion-dollar engineering firm. Along this path, Harrelson has broadened his engineering and business skills with passion, commitment, humor, and humility in leading some of the most challenging and high-profile projects in both the private and public sectors. With design expertise, client service, and quality control, his projects include the 1.8-million-sq-ft Herbert C. Hoover Building in Washington, D.C.; the complete baggage handling retrofit of the three Port Authority of New York/New Jersey airports; and the complete renovation of the Redhat Corporate Headquarters, a 365,000 GSF project seeking U.S. Green Building Council LEED Gold. He leads an MEP team for the U.S. Dept. of Energy Solar Decathlon that was recognized as a finalist. Harrelson recently provided engineering support to produce permit and construction documents with “Rebuilding Together” for the home renovation of Sgt. Johnny Agbi, a wounded soldier whose home needed upgrades for wheelchair accessibility. What little time Harrelson has left in this schedule he spends with his wife. He is also an avid soccer player, runner, and outdoor enthusiast. He has been interested and skilled in photography since college, and his images decorate TM/R’s website.
